On Reopening at Chapelstreet Church

There is a lot of talk in our community about reopening. As we are talking and planning about what it will look like to reopen our facilities, I want to remind you of a few things that we value highly as we plan:

  1. The effectiveness of our mission, when we reopen we want to continue to do what is effective to reach people with the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
  2. The health and safety of our church family & neighbors.
  3. Our willingness to obey and follow the guidance of our civic and government leaders.

Reopening our facilities poses complicated logistical and health issues for a church family of our size and complexity. Over the last few weeks our staff has been hard at work developing a plan for re-gathering. Those plans have yet to be finalized, but I assure you that we will announce them as soon as they are.

I want to assure you:

  • We will make this decision prayerfully, seeking wise & godly counsel from multiple sources.
  • We will reopen when we are certain that we can provide an environment where our families can be effectively ministered to and those who are high-risk can be kept safe.
  • When we do reopen our facilities, we will continue to stream our worship service for those who are cautious about re-gathering and expand our ability to reach people with the gospel of Jesus Christ.
  • We will do all we can to maintain unity of Spirit through the bond of peace, refusing to allow the diversity of opinions on this issue to divide us as God’s people.

Please remember – The Church has never been “closed” because the church has never been a building!  The Church has always been the people of God, saved by the grace of God, filled with the Spirit of God, placed on the mission of God in the world for the glory of God!

Believe me when I tell you that as Lead Pastor, I long to be gathering in person again with all of you as soon as possible. However, I also know that whether we meet in person, online in our homes, or some combination of the two, the mission has not changed!
