Red Ribbon Week

Chapelstreet Church has again been the recipient of the Geneva School District “Red Ribbon Week”.  This will be year six for us! What a joy it is for Shepherd’s Heart to be given the gift of food donations.

How it works:  Each school in the Geneva District collects food for our pantry.  The students have a wonderful understanding of the need for food right here in our community!  They have taken that understanding and put some pretty serious action behind it. They spend a week collecting food and bring all the donations in on Friday.

This year the middle school alone collected 4,597 items for our pantry. In addition to that, we received donations from Williamsburg Elementary and the high school. The Geneva teachers also participated in an apple bobbing competition to raise funds for the pantry.

Personally, I love the excitement this project generates from the students & teachers to our staff & volunteers here at Chapelstreet.  I was delighted to have several Chapelstreet junior high kids devote this past Friday evening to help us process the overwhelming abundance of generosity. This donation came at the perfect time as we are now serving close to 1200 per month. God is so faithful to our little pantry.

This is certainly one of Shepherd’s Hearts yearly highlights!  Each year the donation has been so large that it sustains our pantry for months! I’m just overwhelmed by the generosity of the Geneva School District.
